The Bible?
Sunday, February 24th, 2008What was the name and date of the meeting held by Emperor Constantine of Rome, where Christian leaders decided which books to include in the canon, and which would not remain in the bible? Which books were excluded? I know of the Gnostic works, such as the gospel of Mary, but that’s all. I would greatly appreciate your accurate and unbiased HISTORICAL information. If you wish I would also appreciate your opinion on why the select books that’s were chosen were chosen. Was it political, theological, or chronological? By the way this is not my homework, just one of many topics that I may decide to write on in two weeks for a research paper

Listen, this has nothing to do with Dan Brown or his book. I haven’t even read it. I’m talking about history. Yes, the council did choose which books to exclude and include. For example, they excluded all the Gnostic texts. The problem is these are the only ones I know. They also discussed the nature of Jesus, but that was not the only or main reason for the meeting. The main reason, arguably, was that emperor Constantine wanted to build several churches and in each one he wanted to include a holy canon. I believe he built twelve churches in all, and in each church he put a copy of the agreed upon canon. Read your History book, I assure you it’s in there.
