The Components of a Well designed Bible Lesson

Monday, January 26th, 2009

While great sermons and speeches can occur extemporaneously, most of the time quiet a bit of intentional thought and study is placed into it. I spend time very regularly building free sermons online for bible lessons. The focus of this article is what does s good solid sermon or speech structure look like. Of course, there is no one set form for all people and all sermons and speeches. I will share one that I believe is basic but very solid with you.

1. The Title
The title of the speech is very vital. It is the speaker’s opportunity to prepare the audience and at times even excite them. The title can be used to build an immediate sense of anticipation. It answers the question, What is this about? An example of a title, “The High Cost of Adultery”

For a preacher, the decision is made where to announce the biblical text. It can be at any time but is usually before or after the title. For a speech outside the realm of the church, a text is not needed.

2. The Introduction
The introduction is the speakers opportunity to build a bridge from where the mind of the audience is to where the speaker wants to take them. A quote, story, illustration or startling statement can all be effectively used to build the bridge. A simple question can be used as well. For example, What does it cost a man to commit adultery? Hmmm, that one will cause ears to perk up.

3. The Transition
Keep transition in mind throughout the speech or sermon. This makes the ride more seamless for the listener. The transition is mostly a well crafted sentence that moves the listener from what you have just presented to what you are about to presented. For example, “The cost of adultery is high, I want to share with you five things it will cost you. First it will cost you…”

4. The Main Points
The main points are the big bones of the speech or sermon. They are the foundational statements you want to make. They are those points that will be on everyone’s notes. Make sure the audience knows what they are. To continue with our example, “First, Adultery will cost you the trust you have built with others.” You should have at least two main points but don’t have so many the audience loses focus. There are a lot of examples of outlines. I have a site focusing on free online bible study, please check it out.

5. The Sub Points
Sub-points are simple points you place under a main point. An example, “You lose trust with others. First of which is your spouse….” and so forth.

6. The Conclusion
Beyond the obvious meaning of bringing things to a close, the conclusion is the place to quickly summarize what you have shared. This restatement is helpful to insure that you pull all the threads together tightly.

7. The Call to Action
This last component is so important. It is necessary to do this in order to move the audience from just receiving mental information to experiencing true life change. Since they have heard what you have shared, what do you want them to do? Tell them! This is the call to action.

I hope this basic overview proves helpful to you. Print it out and keep it handy as a resource.

Audio Bible study offers an easy to utilize method of spending time with God’s Word in the busiest of schedules. An added benefit of the audio Bible on CD is that it is flexible enough to be played back in a variety of different ways: from your home computer, or a personal CD player or DVD player. The audio Bible has now become widely available over the internet and can easily be be used in conjunction with digital technologies. One popular example is the MP3 Audio Bible which is increasingly popular with the general public. Your children can benefit from all of the digital expertise of audio Bible recordings. These recordings are brought to bear on the Word of God in order to share it with a multitude of people who, for many reasons, are not readers. Very young children, for example, are not at a stage in their development where they are able to read, and can thus benefit from being introduced to the Bible through listening to the children’s Bible in an audio format.

Children learn in predominantly one of three different ways: auditory, visual and kinesthetic. Auditory learners learn by hearing new information, while visual learners gain new knowledge by seeing it, and kinesthetic learners are hands-on types who learn by doing. If your child happens to favor the auditory learning style, then sharing the Bible with them in an audio format might be just what they need to make a vital connection to the wisdom found in God’s Word.

Audio children’s bibles share the best of the Bible’s stories from both the Old and New Testaments in a dramatized version, which includes spoken character voices, music and even sound effects, to bring the Bible to life for your child. It also utilizes a child-friendly version of the Bible, which stays true to the meaning of the Bible but utilizes language that a child can understand easily. Another added attraction to audio children’s Bible stories on CD or mp3 is that they also often include songs which are age-appropriate for children and fun to sing.

Podcasts of children’s Bible stories are also beginning to be available on line. What this means is that you can purchase a subscription to the online service, and then have access to a list of all the different podcast episodes available, so you can pick and choose the ones you would like to listen to. They also come in a regularly downloaded time schedule, so that you can add them to your mp3 player for your child to listen to when he or she is on the go. Mp3 digital audio files compress the entire New Testament into a single CD, so there are no bulky books to cart around or find storage space for. The digital audio quality is the highest available, and provides a rich and clear sound of the Bible stories being shared.

The Kjv Bible Comes Alive Online

The King James Version (KJV) Bible has been used to teach the Word of God to millions of people around the world since it was first printed in 1611 AD. Since then, there have been many different translations that have brought the KJV Bible to even more countries and cultures, including the New International Version (NIV), which was published in 1973, and the New King James Version (NKJV), which was published in 1982, as a modern English version that maintained the style of the original King James Bible.

Since all of these Bibles are printed versions that require literate readers, there are still many people in the world who do not have the means to learn the teachings of Christ. Many of these individuals live in developing countries that do not have public schools or the type of educational opportunities found in more advanced areas of the world. This has been a concern for many dedicated Christian organizations located in the United States as well Europe, and much has been done in recent years to help remedy the situation.

Since hearing the King James audio Bible is a very easy way to spread the lessons and stories of the scripture, there are now Christian volunteers who bring villages the Bible on CD or other video and audio Bible formats that have been translated into over 300 languages. Oftentimes the King James Bible CDs can be played while villagers and children follow along in printed copies, which is a great way to teach villagers how to read as they are learning the scriptures. While some Bible listening groups take place in dangerous countries, it is inspiring to note that hundreds of villagers are often willing to accept the risk because they are hungry to hear the Word of God.

In addition to the clear benefits of bringing audio Bibles to underdeveloped countries, there are also many modern-day Christians that are taking advantage of these newer formats, including the King James audio Bible on CD and downloads of the King James Bible online. King James Bible CDs can be easily listened to while you are commuting to work everyday and you can listen to them while you are doing your daily chores or taking a morning jog - there are almost limitless possibilities. You can also download books from the King James Bible online and find different Podcasts to load onto your iPod or MP3 player.

As technology continues to provide new ways to spread the Word of God, many more people will have the chance to learn about the life and lessons of Jesus Christ. The Bible is already the most translated book in the world and soon it will be most translated book in audio and online formats as well.

Its Now Easier Than it Has Ever Been to Study and Learn the Bible With Audio Versions

Maria Leyva asked:

Can you remember back to the first time that you picked up a bible and began to read it? Be honest, it was some pretty hard reading! A lot of the words and phrases were just so hard to understand and even then, you probably weren’t even sure that you were pronouncing them correctly. You struggled on and maybe still do. However; now in todays modern age you can have the bible read out loud to you, any time that you want.

Its Not Just a Book Any More

For some time now the Bible has been available in many different forms, such as on cassette tapes and CDs. In fact, you can even now buy a complete video bible that cones on a DVD that allows you to not just hear what took place, but also see visual interpretations of biblical events as well.

For All People

Learning the Bible should be a pleasure, but for people who have difficulty reading this pleasure has always been just out of reach. Now however, just as with so many other things in life, all people are now being included. Also now, times in your life such as driving in your car are a great time to listen to and learn the bible.

Great for the Sick or Impaired

If you know someone that is sick, or unable to leave their home due to a physical problem an audio version of the Bible makes a great gift that they can listen to again and again. In fact, its the next best thing to you actually being there reading the bible to them yourself.

Perfect for Teens

Getting teenagers to read the bible can be very difficult. Sure you can give them one in written form but it will just end up at the bottom of their drawer. However, a Bible in CD form will most likely find its way into their CD player at some point, and when it does some of its message is bound to stick.

Understand More of What You Read

The next time you sit down in your favorite chair to read the bible why not try reading along with an audio bible. You will be amazed at how much more of what you read will be remembered and you will instantly learn the pronunciation of all of the difficult words and phrases that used to give you so much trouble.
