What is the use of Bible quotations in trying to convince non-believers?
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008One sees this all the time a question by an atheist is answered with Biblical quotes. Or when someone asks a question about some mystical belief say magic than we also see a lot of Biblical quotes to show how wrong it is. I don’t understand this if a person does not believe in the Bible or accept it as authoritative what is the use of using passages from the Bible.
“I don’t believe in the Bible.”
“Oh but says right here in the Bible that you should believe it!?”
Sorry Happy but when I have a discussion with a Christian I may use Bible quotes since this is what they believe I do not have to believe it myself. It is like communicating on their level (not meant offensively) since the Bible is their cornerstone of belief. I may use it to for instance show them what I may see as a fallacy. But using Bible passages to convince me of its truth would be ineffective on the other hand.
