You have it all backwards. We are not a secular nation; we are a nation founded with a belief in God. The government is not using the Bible to oppress gay people, and in fact, gay people are not being oppressed. The government in the form of California’s courts is oppressing the will of the people who have said they don’t want to change the definition of marriage. Finally, gays, lesbians and their allies are the ones trying to force their beliefs on other people.

Where in the constitution does it say we are a secular nation? Just because you aren’t required to go to a certain church, that doesn’t mean we are a secular nation. At its root, our code of law comes from the Ten Commandments and other religious laws.

Because they have no better way to attempt to justify the oppression, they will use religion to rationalize any behavior that does oppress others. The Bible has been used to justify sexism, racism, classism, and heterosexism, and probably any other “ism” that concerns the rights of a group of people being oppressed.
Oh, and to the person (or people) who think marriage is only a Christian notion, um, brush up on world religions you dip(s).

For the natural meaning of family that tradition its part of who we are as the.
