What is the International Standard quotation of the Bible for book?

Currently I’m editing an english devotional translation to other language. And I have no clue what is the standard of quotation should be. Sometimes the book say Matthew 12:5-6. But sometimes they say in a bracket (Matt. 12:5-6)

So anyone can help me a link or article that provide such information. I tried to googling it but can’t find it.
