What is the use of Bible quotations in trying to convince non-believers?

Or when someone asks a question about some mystical belief say magic than we also see a lot of Biblical quotes to show how wrong it is. I don’t understand this if a person does not believe in the Bible or accept it as authoritative what is the use of using passages from the Bible.

Sorry Happy but when I have a discussion with a Christian I may use Bible quotes since this is what they believe I do not have to believe it myself. It is like communicating on their level (not meant offensively) since the Bible is their cornerstone of belief. I may use it to for instance show them what I may see as a fallacy. But using Bible passages to convince me of its truth would be ineffective on the other hand.

The people who do not quote the people who do it to try and convince themselves they even dare have mind of their own arguments and opinions made clear as well.

Good question.
A classic example is the whole creation vs evolution debate.
There is a heap of factual evidence to suggest that the large number of genetic mutations of human beings mean we could not have simply evolved on our own.

So it has to be something else.
I suspect the answer to the enigma is simple home grown laziness. Christian fanatics are cutting and pasting quotes to support their arguments because they can’t be bothered researching the many decent arguments out there that could support a more educated and powerful response.
When in doubt cut and paste the Bible…

Bible quotes are indeed useless to those who do not believe that the bible is in any way the word of God.
I guess they think if we read it often enough we will begin to believe it’s the truth. They don’t seem to understand that the quotes are meaningless to those who aren’t of their faith.
